Understanding How To Cope With Tight Foreskin Problems

by Trevor Johnson on November 28, 2009

The foreskin is a piece of skin that covers the end of the penis. If you have undergone a circumcision then it will have been removed. If you have any problems relating to your penis, such as a tight foreskin, then it can be very upsetting and embarrassing as well as painful. The only comfort you can be given is to be aware that there are treatments on offer for tight foreskin problems.

The medical term for a tight foreskin is phimosis. If you believe that you have phimosis then you will not be able to wash under the foreskin and so there will then be a build up of a white substance termed smegma. When your penis is erect it can be very sore, which has the side effect of making sex less pleasant.

There are men that have had a tight foreskin their whole lives whereas others may develop phimosis at a later time in life due to an infection.

If you have a tight foreskin then forcing it back can make the problem worse as the skin can crack. It is better to gently try stretching it every night before sleeping.

If the phimosis does not go away by itself then the best option is to have an operation. The most common treatment is a circumcision. This involves a surgeon lifting up the foreskin and slicing it off. The incision is then stitched back together. For a few weeks after a circumcision the head of the penis is going to be painful. It may be wise to wear loose pants rather than tight jeans.

Another choice is an operation called preputioplasty. This is not as drastic as a circumcision as the foreskin is sliced rather than removed. The incision is then cross stitched to give a wider more flexible foreskin. It will leave a natural looking penis.
